Things To Do In And Around Port Lincoln South Australia
Port Lincoln is a fairly small town situated in the Eyre Peninsula in Southern Australia. It is a city which is the largest in the area and it is also seen as the biggest base for the fishing fleet in Australia which along with the grain industry is the biggest contributor to the economy in the area. So here is a short guide as to what is available to people who are visiting the area on holiday.
First of all the Port Lincoln accommodation there is not a great deal to choose from as although it is the biggest town in the area it is still not a big enough size to sustain a number of hotels. What you do get though is a choice from small hotels to other more family owned guest houses so there are different options for different budgets.
The main reason why the area has seen more tourists coming is due to the blue water of the sea and the range of scenery in the area. It is also within distance of the many national parks that cover the peninsula meaning you can explore the wildlife in their natural habitat at your leisure.
Of course with it being on the coast and being in Australia the most popular activities involve the water. Surfing, diving, swimming, and fishing are all available here but you do also have the ability to explore the cliffs and the natural beauty around the town.
When people travel to Australia they may have a list of things that they would like to see or do which are seen as being typically Australian. Many of them are with certain animals and a trip to just the Glen Forest Tourist Park means you can meet koalas, see kangaroos and view wombats. For those who are more adventurous you can always go swimming in a cage with great white sharks.
When it comes to dining out you really should take advantage of the fishing industry being on the doorstep and visit the seafood restaurants in the town. You are not really going to be able to explore the cuisine of the world as there is not as wide a choice as you get in larger towns or cities but everything is fresh and a lot of the ingredients are grown basically on the doorstep.
There are more cultural places to explore in and around the area with various museums telling the story of the different industries that dominate the area. They also give you information on the time when the peninsula was first explored and how it has developed over the last couple of centuries.
This is not the type of place to go if you want the typical tourist holiday or to experience a busy environment but instead it is much better as a relaxing vacation. While there may be surfing in the area, and this is often associated with a partying atmosphere, it is still very family friendly not just in Port Lincoln but all over the Eyre Peninsula.
